Cub Taster Weekend

Hello everyone

Just got back from Hesley Wood after the Taster Weekend.

Although it was not as well supported as it should have been, the  Cub Scouts who were there had a great weekend.

The Cubs had a large scale wide game on Friday night and then the opportunity to watch a film before supper and bed.

On saturday 8 teams went round 8 bases allto do  with the sort of activities they might do in Scouts:
Fire lighting, outdoor cooking. Compass work.
Rope making, knots and lashings, large scale pioneering.
Some crafts and an introduction to the badges and awards in the scout section.
A superb campfire was followed by another film.

On Sunday morning many of the site activities at Hesley Wood were open. There were circus skills aplenty.Sky runners and power shoes to have a try at.Challenges to complete. We closed earlier today with a short Cubs Own service and closing ceremony.

I know that you are all busy with other things, like your own camps, and I am aware that some packs were commited to other things this weekend, but its the Cub Scouts in Don District that I feel most sorry for - it was a lost opportunity for them and surely they are the reason you have committed to Scouting!

Despite no packs from the District being there (though I know Sandra tried to encourage someone to go with her) I am very grateful for the 13 or more leaders / explorer scouts etc.  from the District who gave up part of their weekend to make it a successful camp - and only one of them was directly connected to our Section.

My own personal thanks to them - apologies if I've missed anyone - please pass on.
